Five Cobham players represent Surrey U15s

County honours for Cobham youngsters

The Surrey County U15 season finally got underway last weekend. With a great representation at DPP level from Cobham this season, three of our boys were part of the squad that played against Middlesex at Grasshoppers RFC on Sunday (17 March).

Set against a backdrop of sun, wind, rain and hail, first to go was the Surrey A versus Middlesex A match. Andy Muirhead (Captain) and Will Palmer both had outstanding performances, rewarded with a try for Will.

Next up was the full U15 County game. Cobham’s Caleb Boddington opened the scoring with a fine run down the left wing, in what developed into a very tight contest. Caleb had several other exciting runs and chased the ball and opposition hard.

Connor O'Byrne was outstanding during the first half in the second row, with a selection of bulldozing runs through the middle of the Middlesex defence and a series of crunching tackles. The game was in the balance at 12-all after 40 minutes.

Virtually the entire pack was replaced for the second half, giving the full squad game time and our third representative player, Jamie Yorke, joined to do battle in the front row. Jamie kept the pack going forward through the second half but, unfortunately, Middlesex ran in the match winning score in the last minute, from an accurate kick down the touchline. Final score 17-12 to Middlesex.

Congratulations to all five Cobham boys who represented the County and Club admirably both on and off the field.
